Commissioned by the China National Tourism Administration, CTA undertook a research project entitled the Survey Report on the Development of the Tourism Industry in Lincang City. Under the leadership of president Dai Bin, the research was initiated by the Institute of Regional Tourism Planning and Development and carried out by both our internal units and external units. Based on the historical background and particular conditions of the tourism industry in Lincang, the Report presents an analysis of the problems and contradictions confronting the local tourism industry and outlines the key tasks for its development in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period. According to the Report, Lincang’s tourism industry is plagued with such problems as lack of support from the inland market, inconvenient communications, insufficient policy support, etc. These problems are embodied by a series of contradictions as follows: the great importance attached by the government and its limited financial strength; the superb tourism resources and the absence of tourism brands; the profound heritage of national culture and the low market visibility; the urgent demand for tourism development and the absence of operating bodies; etc. In the end, the Report indicates that the key tasks for Lincang should be to build a tourist hub, explore its Wa nationality culture and tea culture, construct tourism circles and recreational and sightseeing projects, incubate tourism products, etc.
